Florence Boutique Hotels Hide Art and Unique Style

Florence is a city that truly has it all for a traveler. I found myself completely captivated by its art, history, and incredible food. This trip, I was looking for places to stay that felt more like a secret local spot than a tourist trap. I wanted to experience Florence from a different angle, focusing on unique design and a friendly atmosphere, rather than just big hotels with lots of services. It’s amazing how many wonderful, smaller places there are if you know where to look.

Unique Places to Stay

Velona’s Jungle Luxury Suites

This place was something else! It’s in the Santa Maria Novella neighborhood, a bit away from the super crowded spots, which was nice. The four suites are designed with this really bold, maximalist jungle theme. I saw leopard print chairs and leaf-print wallpaper, all put together with a surprising amount of taste. It felt like stepping into a different world, inspired by old-school exotic styles but done in a really modern way.

They don’t have a gym or a pool, but that’s not what they’re about. They offer an organic breakfast, which was lovely. The owner’s grandfather was an antique dealer, and you can tell they’ve gathered amazing pieces from all over. It’s a small place, but it really makes a statement with its design. You feel like you’re in on a secret.

What makes this stay special

Exploring these unique suites was a real treat for the eyes. The attention to detail in the jungle theme was incredible.

I loved how each suite felt like its own little world, offering a truly memorable experience far from standard hotel rooms.

SoprArno Suites

If you love vintage and art, you’ll adore SoprArno Suites. It’s located in the Oltrarno district, which has a really artistic and bohemian vibe. The guesthouse is spread across the upper floors of a 16th-century townhouse. It has 13 rooms, each decorated with a mix of art and antiques. You’ll see beautiful frescoes and cool vintage typography decorations throughout.

Breakfast is served downstairs in their café. The staff are happy to help with local tips, pointing you towards places like the natural wine bar next door. It feels very personal and cozy, like staying with a friend who has impeccable taste.

Is this good for families

With its artistic and quirky decor, it might be more suited for adults or older children who appreciate art.

The intimate atmosphere could be a bit much for very young children who need more space to move around.

Casa Botticelli in San Felice

This is a gem in the Oltrarno area, right near Palazzo Pitti. It’s a small hotel with only nine rooms, but it packs a big punch. The owners are art dealers, and their influence is all over the place. The rooms feel like a real art gallery, with many pieces available to purchase.

The style is contemporary Tuscan, with bright colors, modern touches, and antique furnishings. I thought it was a wonderful way to experience the local art scene just by walking into my room. The neighborhood itself is lively, with artisan workshops and shops. It’s a great base for soaking up the local culture.

What to do nearby

You are perfectly placed to explore the artisan shops and galleries of the Oltrarno district.

Palazzo Pitti is just a stone’s throw away, offering hours of exploration.

Corte Calzaiuoli

This place is all about luxury and location, right on a busy shopping street and just a short walk from the Duomo. The hotel is on one floor of a historic Renaissance mansion, which was once home to the famous De’ Macci family. Even though the building is historic, it’s been completely redone with a dramatic marble entrance.

The 11 rooms are minimalist but stylish, and importantly, they are soundproofed. The breakfast buffet is served in a lounge with a great view of the Orsanmichele church. You can also arrange parking, airport transfers, and even wine tastings. It’s a perfect spot if you want to be in the heart of the action.

Residence Hilda

Located near the Santissima Annunziata church and the Museo degli Innocenti, offers a very central stay. You can even see the Duomo from the doorway! It’s essentially a converted apartment building with 12 remodeled suites.

The style is pared-down and minimalist. What’s great is that each suite has a fully equipped kitchen, which is perfect if you want to feel like you have your own apartment in the city. They don’t offer breakfast, but there’s a concierge available via WhatsApp for any help you need. It’s ideal for a longer stay or if you want the flexibility of self-catering.

Is this a good option for families

The fully equipped kitchens in each suite make it very convenient for families travelling with young children.

Having a separate living space in the suites offers more comfort and privacy for everyone.

Ricasoli Firenze Luxury Apartments

This is a set of seven apartments in the Santissima Annunziata area, close to the Accademia Gallery, where David is. The apartments range from one to three bedrooms and each has a unique design. Some have wood-paneled walls, others have glass stairs or French balconies.

Every apartment comes with a fireplace, a Jacuzzi in a spa-style bathroom, and custom furnishings from Tuscan artists. It’s a blend of convenience and luxury, offering a really special experience. It felt like a home away from home, but with way more style and amenities than I expected.

What amenities to expect

Each apartment boasts a Jacuzzi, providing a luxurious spa-like experience after a day of sightseeing.

You’ll find unique, custom-made furnishings crafted by local Tuscan artists, adding to the distinct charm.

Riva Lofts

These lofts are located in the Oltrarno district, on the edge of the Arno River. They’ve transformed a century-old factory into 10 stylish, minimalist loft suites. It’s in a quieter, residential neighborhood called Isolotto, about a 35-minute walk or a short tram ride from the city center.

Perfect for relaxed stays

The tranquil garden setting and pool offer a peaceful escape from the city’s pace.

Being slightly outside the main tourist hubs provides a more local and relaxed atmosphere.

Experiencing Florence With Family

When I travelled with Michael, Lily, and Ethan, we looked for places that offered a bit more space and convenience. was perfect because each suite had a full kitchen. It meant we could have simple breakfasts in our “apartment” and prepare snacks for the kids. Lily loved having her own little room, and Ethan could play without us worrying about him disturbing other guests. It made our days exploring the city much easier knowing we had a comfortable base to return to.

Where to find unique souvenirs

Look for artisan workshops in the Oltrarno district for handmade leather goods and ceramics.

Explore the smaller boutiques along the side streets for unique jewelry and art pieces.

Best neighborhoods for walking

The Oltrarno district offers charming streets with fewer crowds and artisan shops.

Exploring the Santa Maria Novella area allows you to see a more local side of the city.

What to try for breakfast

Many boutique hotels offer excellent organic breakfasts with local pastries and fruits.

Enjoy a classic Italian cappuccino and a pastry at a local cafe for an authentic start.

Florence truly is a city that stays with you. Whether you’re looking for bold design, a quiet retreat, or a family-friendly base, there’s a special place waiting. I always feel inspired when I visit, and I can’t wait to go back again soon.
